About Lemontree
There are more food pantries in the US than there are McDonald’s, yet the majority of our neighbors facing food insecurity don’t access these crucial resources. Lemontree connects hungry families to free food in their backyard through a tech-enabled food helpline and an online directory. In just three years, we’ve connected more than 100,000 families to free food and we’re not slowing down.
The Technical Fellow Role
The Lemontree engineering fellowship is designed for new software engineers looking to make an impact and get on-the-ground experience working across the stack on web applications. As a fellow, you'll receive mentorship from our CTO and build the skills necessary to become a full-stack software engineer.
Your work will include building features for Lemontree's volunteers, employees and clients across a number of different products all dedicated to improving food access for all.
This is a six month contract with the possibility for extension:
In week one, you'll set up a development environment and learn about our technical infrastructure (it's all Javascript–React, Next.js, Prisma, etc.).
In week two, you'll ship your first contribution to our production code.
In weeks three through eight, you'll work on new features hand-in-hand with the CTO. Between frequent pair programming and extensive code review, we'll support you and set you up for success.
For the next four months, you'll use the skills you developed earlier in the fellowship to independently deploy features that make a meaningful impact.
About You
This is a junior role for a new software engineer–someone who just graduated from a coding bootcamp or is in the later stages of teaching themselves to code.
We don't expect you to know how to do everything, but we do need you to:
- Have experience building a web-application of some kind from beginning to end.
- Have experience with some type of Javascript framework (we use React and Next.js, but we're ok if you've learned something else).
- Have at least two years of work experience in any type of job (seriously, any job).
- Have a passion for helping others and connection to Lemontree's mission.
- Be a great learner–receptive to feedback and curious about the world around you.
This role is location agnostic. You can live anywhere, but we need you to be online from 10:00 to 6:00 Eastern Time.
This is a junior role with compensation and expectations to match. Please don't be scared to apply, we're eager to meet candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
